FeBrewary

Venture Idea Name:

FeBREWary

Description:

*If you have growler places or a strong beer culture in your school’s community, consider this Fundraiser!*

The idea is: Sell growlers with the Nourish sticker and/or your school’s logo to students (undergrad & grad, grad students especially) and community members. They can bring the growler to a certain location or a number of locations for deals/discounts on fill-ups during February. It could also culminate in an event like a bar crawl that people could pay extra to take part in and get even more deals!

You approach a local brewery instead! Many local, craft breweries are very involved in the community. If you work out a deal, the growlers filled with their specific beer would go to Nourish!

Marketing Ideas:

Advertising at the fill-up locations would be crucial. Then, distributing advertising materials online and around the campus area (find the area where most grad students and beer aficionados live. Digital Posters on social media like McGill’s (here & here) could be effective.

A more creative and interactive advertising strategy could be pursued too. Consider hosting growler Olympics (like the ring toss game at carnivals or guess how many beans are in the growler, not drinking games) on your campus to spread the word!

Revenue and Expenses:

Growlers might cost anywhere from $10-$20, fill-ups are anywhere from $6-$15. If you purchased 20 growlers at $10 each and received 20% of each fill-up, then the revenue could be around $210 if each growler was only filled once.

Profits and Other Benefits of Venture

In order to make this profitable you’d need to find growlers at a relatively cheap price, or work out a way to earn money that doesn’t require you to purchase the growlers up front at all (like the brewery idea mentioned in the description.)

This could be a great way to connect with local community members and an every growing craft beer community (which is often very supportive of local causes!)

Challenges:

Finding growlers for the right price. Marketing to students (most students probably don’t fill growlers regularly, but grad students do more often)

Tips:

Go talk with the growler stations and local breweries around you! It’s so much more effective to speak in person and you can try the beers while you’re there!

Would you recommend to other chapters?

If there are growler stations looking to increase awareness and your community has an interest in beer/growlers, this Venture could have a lot of potential.
